No Email Day – The Fully Story

Here is the history or how it started from the original Paul Lancaster post – get involved
No Email Day
By Paul Lancaster @lordlancaster

No Email Day began as a viral marketing campaign encouraging people to avoid email for 24hrs on 11th November 2011 and use alternative methods of communication to be more productive with their time.

The original 9-page ‘manifesto’ was read over 30,000 times in October 2011 after The Next Web ran a piece on it resulting in thousands of people blogging, Tweeting and sharing it around the world. The campaign then received international support and media coverage by BBC Radio 5 Live, Wall Street Journal, Wired and The Sunday Times. IBM even launched their own social media campaign to coincide with No Email Day and included my manifesto on their ‘Outside the Inbox’ homepage.

Inspired by Seth Godin’s ‘Poke The Box’ and ‘Unleashing The Ideavirus’, No Email Day was an experiment to see how far ideas can spread if certain criteria are met and has continued to gain momentum and support to become an annual event that anyone can join online.

The next ‘No Email Day’ is due to take place on 04/04/14 so if you’d like to get involved please Follow the campaign on Twitter @NoEmailDayHQ and feel free to blog and Tweet about it including the #noemailday hashtag.
