Our findings after customer research & feedback

What’s next for nooQ?

In case you missed the earlier parts, they are here

Part 1 Surprising Results From Survey into Enterprise Social

Part 2 Current Issues with eMail in the Workplace

Part 3 Research into Social Media Usage

We did a survey of over 100 companies into their email habits, file sharing tools, social media usage and how they used enterprise social collaboration tools like Yammer, Slack, Jive, SharePoint and Hipchat.

From a nooQ perspective, we did the survey as we had a lot of demand for different nooQ products. We had demands to improve nooQ Team. We had demands to visualize, sort and filter social networks like Facebook, Twitter and Linked-In. We had demands to sit on top of Slack, Yammer, Jive and IBM Connections. Additionally, we had requests to visualize Dropbox and Google Drive.

We are a small team; we can’t build everything so we needed to prioritize what should be next.

Long story short, we will be focusing on nooQ Team now, nooQ Files next and dropping nooQ Social and nooQ email, unless we get a ridiculous offer build them immediately.

Why are we doing that? Please read on.

nooQ Social

Should we develop further our nooQ visualizations and filtering algorithms for Twitter, Facebook or Linked-in?

What we wanted to know from this was whether we should focus the product towards commercial usage for marketing, customer service, research and development or towards consumers for their personal social media networks. The demand was there for both, although the expectation for personal usage would be that it would be a free application.

We didn’t want to use advertising or sharing of your data, so we would have to find a better business model to cover the costs, as engineering wise this is quite a complex problem to solve. We know how we would do it, but it would take money and time with no strong guarantee to significant revenues.

The other challenge is switching. Tweetbot have done very well providing alternative and better Twitter client, although most people do not switch from the default application, never mind pay for it.

nooQ eMail

We have a huge number of requests to fix email overload. We looked at which email clients you use, whether you trust a machine to learn to sort your email for you and what email products you use.

Outlook was rated better than Apple Mail. Google’s Gmail was the best web mail product, no surprises there. What was surprising was how few people switch products from whatever is installed on their machine. If you are a Windows user, you use Outlook even though you don’t think it is that great. On Apple, you use Apple mail even though it scores 2.8 out of 5 for satisfaction. Only 13% of you use rules to manage your inbox.

The big challenge with providing nooQ email, would not be building the product, which is not without its challenges but the bigger challenge would be funding the marketing and distribution. To get people to change behaviour and switch from a product they still use despite not liking the product, would take a chunk of change to sell. We still fundamentally believe we can build a product that is 10x better, it just won’t be the product we build next. If your company wishes partner with us, help fund the development and marketing, please get in touch.

 nooQ Files

We had really good feedback and interest on nooQ Files. Using our visualizations, volume controls and algorithms to provide a better interface for organizing, sorting, filtering and searching files and folders will be our next product for sure. We would offer this for Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, Box, Windows and Mac OS.

Individuals, myself included have huge problems remembering what folder a file was in, what it was called, what was contained in the document with the default search not being too sophisticated there is a huge opportunity here. Typically you end up opening five to ten folders and files just to find the correct one. Very tedious and a problem crying out for a better solution.

Once you have several people in a team sharing files and folders the problem gets bigger very quickly. Unless you are in the small minority who can strictly control file name standards and folder structure standards, but for the rest of us, it’s a nightmare.

nooQ Team

What was re-assuring from the survey feedback was that we had started with the correct product. People wanted nooQ team the most. What we needed to improve was to deliver nooQ mobile app, more integration and an alternative square design.

We have implemented news, chrome web clipper, performance improvements and amazingly fast search.

What people really need is to find and share information. Sounds really simple but all other competitors on the market, this means you searching, filtering and reading a lot of posts and notifications only then to discover whether it was relevant.

We have changes in development at the moment, that will significantly improve and speed up how you see unread content, more ways to filter and basically find information much faster than before. Our design goal is showing you everything, sorted visually at one glance you can see all that is important to you. We are improving on that and genuinely have something really exciting and significantly better than anything on the market.

People want to be informed of everything that is going on in the company, their team and what is important to them. The quicker you have that, the more time you spend adding value by doing your job. People should not be spending the majority of their time communicating and keeping others informed. nooQ makes this significantly easier.

nooQ Mobile

You asked for it, we delivered it. We are very excited to announce nooQ mobile is available for Android and has been submitted to Apple App store and pending approval will be available in a few weeks.

Pricing

We have listened to you and have changed our pricing and trial period length. More to come on this, subscribe to our blog for the announcement but we will be giving significantly more value to you, more value for money and the best deal on the market. We will keep per user pricing for our lower price bands, but prices will drop significantly for larger plans, to suit larger users volumes, the price per user will be significantly less, giving more features and more value for money.
